Community House Bromley, run by Bromley Voluntary Sector Trust (BVST), has benefited from a new mural in its entrance hall designed and painted by local artist Beci Ward. Beci was invited to design and paint a new mural for the organisation to celebrate its 25 anniversary year in 2025.

Community House Bromley, which opened in October 2000 on South Street BR1, provides a home to charitable and community organisations in Bromley. Tenant organisations include: Age UK Bromley & Greenwich; Citizens Advice Bromley; Community Links Bromley; deafPLUS; Bromley Third Sector Enterprise; Advocacy for Bromley; Florence Nightingale Aid in Sickness; Kent Association for the Blind; Magpie Dance; Welcare Bromley. It is an essential part of the ecosystem which allows charitable and voluntary organisations to flourish in Bromley. In its 25th anniversary year BVST want to celebrate the support that Community House and its tenants give to the local community.

‘Community House has been an important part of the local community for the past 25 years. We wanted to commemorate a quarter of a century of supporting our community with a celebration. What better way to kick off that celebration than a piece of public art right here in Community House? We were so lucky to find local artist Beci Ward to help us with this project. Her design, which was developed in consultation with our tenants and building users, will be an inspiration to visitors and staff alike.’

Chair of Bromley Voluntary Sector Trust, Peter Ayres.

Local Artist Beci Ward has been working with the team at BVST for many months to understand the community that use Community House and their relationship to the building. Beci and BVST hosted a number of community engagement sessions to find out what people wanted to see in the mural. The concepts developed represented Community House’s links to Bromley and its community with designs incorporating famous residents such as Charles Darwin and lesser known balloonist Leona Dare who was famous for flying over the Crystal Palace holding onto her hot air balloon using only her jaw!

The final mural is a beautiful blend of flowers, expertly painted by Beci. The colours bring a vibrancy to the entrance hall which is appreciated by all who visit Community House, along with inspiration provided by Beci’s tagline for the mural ‘With the seeds of connection. Community can grow’. Community House brings Bromley and its people together, and Beci’s mural brings together everyone who visits Community House.

Artist Beci said the mural was ‘a joy to complete’ and she has written an ode to the project which can be found on her blog post along with the concepts for the mural. If you like the beautiful colours in the mural many were provided by local business Paint, Paper and Scissor at Hayes.
